Ian Roberts’ vs. Paula Scher’s Metropolitan Campus Mural
I’m a bit late on this, but my good friend, Ian Roberts, had a nice selection of his images published on the Pentagram website. The work documents Paula Scher’s mural installed at the new Metropolitan Campus in Forest Hills, Queens. Scher’s work is beautiful, and has been documented quite nicely by Ian. Nice one, Roberts!
Race and Ethnicity Visualized
Click over to some quite beautiful visualizations of race in different American cities. The maps have been created by Eric Fischer and show the distribution of ethnicities based on the 2000 Census. It could be cool to visualize the difference between this set of data and that being processed for this year’s census.

Rolling Shutter
Finally I’ve found an explanation for the skewed images created when shooting from a fast moving vantage point. The effect is called Rolling Shutter and is produced by cameras that don’t take the image from an instant in time. Instead the shutter moves across the sensor as it’s recording.
