I’ve been largely offline the last few days. Tony Eakes has been in town, so I’ve gotten the opportunity to play tour guide, something I really enjoy. Most of my friends and family have made multiple trips to town, so I don’t often have the opportunity to run around with people new to NYC. It’s been great introducing Tony to some of my favorite sounds, spaces, eats, art, history, etc.

Tony’s off to London this evening for the start of a five week European trip centering around seeing as much soccer as possible. He’s publishing a blog during the trip which you can find at http://technaught.wordpress.com/.

Yesterday, then again this afternoon, Tony mentioned that what I’d been doing for him — introducing him to what I love in the city — could be done for other people visiting NYC. This is an idea Patrick Marckesano and I were flirting with a few years ago. The package we’d discussed then included visiting known and little known places in town be they landmarks, restaurants, shopping, etc.; then transitioning into the evening where we could turn people onto music they might otherwise have trouble finding. The model has precedents: I met a woman in Berlin who was doing this exact thing for people there. After having as much fun as I’ve had with Tony, this is starting to look like a possibility again.
