Wiggin This evening I had a chance to help a friend with a legal dispute she’s gotten tangled up in. She ran into trouble when the programmer she’d hired failed to deliver on his promises, then after giving them an incomplete site requested payment in full. She called on me to be an expert witness in regards to WordPress and how it was and wasn’t used on the site.

I explained to the court first my familiarity with WordPress and how I’ve been using it the last five years, especially these last two years. There was a brief overview of what WordPress actually is, how it’s traditionally used as well as how it can be extended for further functionality. I then gave an assessment of the work I saw that had been completed followed by my opinion on directions my friend could take from here. There were questions as to how what’s been done could be salvaged or if it would be necessary, or more cost effective, to start over from scratch.

I found that in giving my testimony I got somewhat caught up in the details. I worked to keep things as focused and simple as possible, but on at least one occasion put a little too much effort into painting a complete picture. This wasn’t at all a problem, as the judge and my friend’s lawyer kept me centered.

In the end I was able to help my friend state her case which is going into some sort of review process. If she needs me further, I’d be more than happy to help. In general I know a little about a lot of things, but in this situation I’ve got a fair amount of experience that I enjoyed being able to put to this type of use.
