A Third Projector
I bought a new projector this week, my third. It’s a Kodak Ektagraphic III AM. I’m just getting to know projectors better, but while newer, this projector doesn’t allow for the changing of its fixed lens. This is alright, as it’s much wider than the lenses of the other two I’ve got.
The image above is from yesterday morning when I was playing with it just before sunrise. I forgot how much fun it is to throw images on various surfaces. I only had about 40 minutes to play before daylight obliterated the projections, but I was able to piece together a few interesting compositions, the image above being the most successful.
With the differences in lenses that my projectors have, I see myself needing to play a bit to finesse them into the next Sound Noir party space. I’ll probably end up bringing a lot of slides and will spend time figuring out what each projector will project where. That said, I’m not bringing everything.
I intend on pulling together a collection of fodder to pull from. That collection I will be shooting over the coming weeks, and those shots will come from pointing the camera at my monitor to grab film stills, as well as making a trip or two to Gimbel library to grab imagery from various books and magazines. I wouldn’t have guessed it, but in the middle of 2009, I’m finding myself going back to shooting film.
Why am I actually shooting slides? Well, I contacted several labs in town, and found that they’re charging $6-$10 to burn an individual slide with a film recorder. This is obviously out of the question. I’d have liked to have been able to create imagery digitally then transfer to slide, but short of me buying my own film recorder — something I’m considering — it doesn’t look viable.
