Looking forward to upgrading this WordPress install from 2.3.3, I turned to Dreamhost’s (ouch! I know…) automatic upgrade. Well it wiped out all the posts I’d written since October 2007. . . all 4 of them! So it seemed an appropriate time to start this over fresh.

Again, I’ve got to say I’m not sure how this site will develop. With one iteration of mechaneyes.com I was basically posting links and personal opinions about things I was finding around the web. This ended up seeming a bit ridiculous because I wasn’t pulling from a huge number of sources, so the site turned into an edited version of several sites. In the end, there are tons of sites where that kind of production is happening in a much better way, so what I’ve found works better, is simply sharing things I find most interesting through Google Reader and Delicious.

Another consideration as to what I’d like to build is the fact that I’ve again started focusing more on photography. The point and shoot cameras are nearly as worthless as the camera in my phone, so since I’ve always got the phone on me, I’ve been shooting almost exclusively with it. That isn’t to say that I’m not deriving a bit of pleasure from using it, and at least a couple people seem to think what I do with it is worthwhile. So that said, I’ve begun exploring the idea of building a photoblog. It’s yet to be determined where that photoblog will live. Perhaps here, or perhaps at another domain entirely.

Another thing happening is that I’m thoroughly enjoying working with WordPress. I’ve put a lot of time into it while working for CScout the last year, and am impressed by what it can do, and especially by the ways in which people have extended it. So this blog is here, in part, so I can dabble with it a bit more.

OK. I’ve basically said I don’t know what this site will be focused on, and that it may or may not exist in a similar form much past the end of this paragraph. But hey, it was fun putting this together, and I may even have another 3 posts to write between now and next October.
